Double materiality analysis

Materiality analysis has been part of Hansel’s sustainability work and reporting for a long time. Already in the 2023 update of the materiality analysis, the principles of double materiality were taken into account, and representatives of stakeholders were interviewed as the basis for the update.

The actual double materiality assessment process was launched in summer 2024. The result was assessed in spring 2025 in a test assurance, and the materiality analysis was updated based on the feedback received.

The final ten material themes were defined using a long-list stepwise validation process. The matters on which we have the greatest impact from the point of view of both our own operations and the risks and opportunities related to the themes were identified as material.

Theme Impact Opportunity/risk
E1 Climate change, mitigation Negative Risk
E1 Energy Negative Risk
E5 Circular economy Negative Opportunity
S1 Own workforce, work-life balance Positive Risk
S2 Working conditions of value chain workers Negative Risk
G1 Corporate culture Positive Opportunity and risk
G1 Political influence Positive Risk
G1 Anti-corruption Positive Opportunity and risk
Security of supply and preparedness Positive Opportunity
Savings for society Positive Opportunity

Sustainability management approach

Theme Impacts Sustainability management Indicator/monitoring
Climate change mitigation The manufacture and use of products and services sold through Hansel’s joint procurement contracts results in CO2 emissions. Hansel’s own operations also generate some emissions, such as those related to mobility. Identifying material emissions impacts and measures in joint procurement through sustainability analysis and risk analysis. Monitoring of emissions data during the contract period. Procurement contributing to climate change mitigation, %
Energy The use of products sold through Hansel’s joint procurement contracts consumes energy. Identifying material impacts and measures related to energy efficiency in joint procurement through sustainability analysis and risk analysis. Monitoring of objectives during the contract period. Procurement taking energy efficiency into consideration, %
Circular economy A significant amount of waste is generated during the end of life phase of products sold through joint procurement contracts.

Recycling and reuse can provide Hansel’s contracts with new business opportunities.

Identifying material impacts and measures related to circular economy goals in joint procurement through sustainability analysis and risk analysis. Monitoring of objectives during the contract period. Procurement contributing to the circular economy goal, %
